7 bar to enjoy cocktail in Paris

Yesterday Christian people were celebrating the Assumption of Mary into Heaven. While the traditional fireworks of August 15th are always beloved on the French coast, they also announce that summer is ending soon.  Children go back to school, and stores that were closed in August are reopening their doors. Many of the French take their vacations this month, enjoying time with their families and friends.  It almost feels like Paris is empty and left to the tourists. More parking spaces, less traffic in the city, Paris is truly enjoyable in August.

The 1st of September is also a great time to reflect, make a few positive changes, and focus on what you really want in your life. The end of summer always provides time to think about the past, and the upcoming remainder of the year. Let’s hope that we are going to have a beautiful indian summer, so we will still enjoy the Parisian terrace for sunny picnics and star-filled strolls at night.

The bride and groom planning their destination wedding in Paris often wonder where the best places are to enjoy a drink. Although expectations can be a little subjective, I  know that I share the vision with them of what a great wedding venue should be. If you happen to be visiting, you will find in this article some inspiring « bars and cocktails ».

THE SPRITZER

Let’s begin with an ephemeral bar, only open during the months of August and September 2015. If you have  missed the invasion of the SPRITZ, an LA orange drink, this is definitely a perfect place to catch up. Located in the beautiful bar Crayon Rouge hotel, enjoy the Venetian Spritz, a surprising beverage! This Original recipe from the great Italian bartenders is made with premium Prosecco as a main ingredient. Go through the door of the Red Crayon hotel and taste the Dolce Vita in Paris.

ROSA BONHEUR

A typical french ‘guinguette’ with a pretty terrace in the heart of the Buttes Chaumont Parc, Rosa Bonheur combines all the ingredients for a perfect day. Enjoy the late summer sun on the large beer garden style tables, and watch a jet-setting young crowd. The spot has became so popular that you can expect a long line at the park entrance.  This is a great place to take a break and reimagine the world. The bar and its vegetal wall was decorated by Patricia Corre.

CHEZ JEANETTE

In the ever changing 10th district of Paris, this casual-chic-hipster corner café bar is a location that survived the Faubourg Saint Denis. The management decided to keep its unique look of red chandeliers, Great Gatsby 40’s wallpaper, and neon (despite the boos.) Jeanette herself left the house. The evening crowd usually overflows onto the pavement, enjoying the mixes of a great DJ on Friday’s. A little remote from the gold triangle, any tourists looking for a typical Parisian experience should explore this unusual venue and enjoy cocktails in Paris. Drinks are very affordable, and delicious.

LES HEURES

If you are looking for a timeless and sophisticated experience, enjoy a cocktail at ‘Les heures’ , a traditional cozy bar tucked inside the landmark 1928 Prince de Galles hotel on the beautiful Avenue George V. Trained in mixology, Christopher Gaglione became a master in the art of reviving great historical references and breathing new life into them, always with a touch of French refinement. He expertly draws inspiration from his knowledge of the past to breathe life into modernity.

The cocktail menu is absolutely divine. Wanna taste a little bit of the 20’s in a glass? Try  « The Journalist » – an unexpected mix of old fashioned Fee Brothers Bitters, Hendrick’s Gin, a touch of Cointreau, Vermouth, and lemon juice.  And finally, the patio and its British Twist menu, designed for lunch by Chef Stéphanie Le Quellec is really worth the visit.

CAFE DELMAS

Opposite the fountain of Contrescarpe, and on the busted Moufetard area in the 5th district, the Café Delmas features a lovely spacious terrace overlooking the square with a real ‘village’ atmosphere. In this cosy venue you will find all the French bistro classics like plates to share, burgers, steak tartare, and pastries, but the originality of the place truly comes from their drinks menu. Try the “Alabama Slammer”: a mix of vodka, Southern Comfort, amaretto, pineapple juice and grenadine.  Cafe Delmas is always a great place to meet some trendy locals Happy hour is from 19h to 21h.

CAFE CHIC

A beautiful terrace on the iconic Faubourg St. Honore frequented by business lawyers, investment bankers and beautiful people, Café Chic is the benchmark for young and old and connects the 8th arrondissement of Paris. The venue, often crowded on weekends, features a long dark room, but even the bathroom is worth taking a look at.  The reputation of the Café Chic is due to the cocktail menu, and the elegant clientele that always ends up dancing between the tables to the sound of the DJ. They offer simple but neat kitchen nibbles at the time of aperitif. While some might think the overall atmosphere is a little bling bling, I personally love the inspired decoration.
