The Metropolitan Club of New York is a private social club in Manhattan. It was founded as a gentlemen’s club in 1891 for men only, but it now allows women into membership.  It is located at 1 East 60th Street on the corner of 5th Avenue and was established as a meeting place for the 25 distinguished gentlemen of the Metropolitan Club of New York. Each member contributed $5,000 to buy the plot of land where the Club stands today in its marble-clad grandeur, designed by Stanford White. Unrivaled in its size, and although the style will be in the simplest character of the Italian Renaissance, the scale of the building and the nature of its materials will give it an appearance unlike that of any building in New York.

New York City Wedding – Historical Venue for Opulent Events

Steps away from Central Park on tree-lined Fifth Avenue, the historic Metropolitan Club combines the glamour of Old New York with contemporary cuisine and bespoke services. The majestic architecture provides a backdrop for a stunning celebration in any season. The heart of the club is the central Great Hall with walls of variegated marble and a forty-five-foot high gold coffered ceiling. From the center of the ornate ceiling hangs a Venetian lantern, purchased from the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. A grand double staircase on the Northside of the hall frames a set of five opalescent stained glass windows and faces an immense marble fireplace to the South. The Great Hall serves as a stunning pre-function or wedding reception space for up to 250 guests.

SUMPTUOUS WEDDING RECOMMENDATION

Just like any private club, the Metropolitan NYC club has few rules. Gentlemen are required to wear jackets and ties at all times (turtlenecks and ascots are not acceptable). Appropriate attire for ladies is dresses, skirts, dressy pantsuits and business pant suits. Jeans, shorts, stirrup pants, leggings, stretch pants, tight pants, sweats and T-shirts are absolutely not acceptable. Members and their guests are reminded, that use of cellular phones and laptops is not permitted anywhere in the Club except in private meeting rooms and bedrooms.
